Just a week after Jarad started his new job, and right in the middle of packing up to move, Jarad had alot of pain and went to the doctor and found out he had a hernia and would need surgery at some point to repair it. Since we were moving in a week, we decided to wait until after the move to schedule the surgery.
But...the pain was relentless and after talking to a surgery center- they suggested going to the ER where he would probably be admitted and have surgery. So...I drove down with my in-laws and we to the ER we went...
Jarad in the ER- dutifully listening to the nurse about what he needed to do.
Since it wasn't an "emergency" we were sent home. Let ms just say that I dislike the ER- you spend many (too many) hours and get nothing but a very large bill!
Luckily (well sort of), the next morning the surgery center called and said the surgeon wanted to see him in a few hours and that his surgery was scheduled for the next day because it was an emergency. So we went to the doctor and got ready for an early morning surgery.
Jarad during his surgery pre-op- gotta made sure he is healthy enough for surgery.
Rock on! Ready to get sliced. Good luck babe!
After they wheeled him away (which is kinda scary- even though I knew it was a very routine surgery and had very little risk- it is still nerve racking to watch your love wheeled away like that!), I went and fell asleep in the waiting room and waited for the surgeon to come tell me how it went. After getting the report from the doctor that the hernia was worse than they thought but everything went well, I went and got his pain meds in the hospital pharmacy. Then I was able to go back to recovery to be with Jarad.
Very groggy...trying to wake up from the anesthesia and really in alot of pain. SAD! He slept alot, ate a little and took some meds for the pain but they just weren't enough. Since he was still in alot of pain and couldn't even stand up on his own, the doctor suggested he be admitted and stay the night to make sure he was comfortable.
Finally admitted and hooked up to the morphine...so much better! Once the pain had subsided, Jarad was able to rest and woke up feeling so much better. So after about 5 hours-Jarad was feeling better and really didn't want to spend the night in the hospital so they checked with the doctor and allowed him to go home to recover.
Jarad & I relaxing at home- well...we ended up staying at my parent's house because our condo wasn't finished being painted and has a large set of stairs. So resting at "home" for now.
We are so grateful for all our family that helped us, visited, and supported us during this crazy time!

Poor Jarad. :(
it's crazy to me that the first doctor didn't seem to think it was a big deal and said he could wait for the surgery initially only to be told later it was an emergency! so glad he is better now.
